2017 Girls Grassroots Program
First 12-Month Plan – New Girls Team
Since this is a brand-new team, the focus during the winter is to develop players so they are fully prepared to compete in the Peel Halton Soccer League during the Summer 2025 season, with the long-term aim of being ready for higher competition in Summer 2026.
What to Expect

Player-first development: Building confidence, technique, and game intelligence.

Clear pathway: Friendly games and scrimmages early on, then league competition in Summer 2025.

Consistent communication: Monthly progress notes and seasonal check-ins.
Our Xcel Coaching Model
We use a player-centred methodology designed to produce intelligent, adaptable, and creative players. Training focuses on:

Technical: First touch, passing/receiving, dribbling, finishing.

Tactical: Spacing, support play, transitions, basic team principles.

Physical: Speed, agility, coordination, and safe strength foundations.

Psychosocial: Confidence, leadership, teamwork, and communication.


Season-by-Season Plan
Winter (Indoor) – Foundation & Readiness

2–3 structured sessions/week following the Xcel Coaching Model.

Progressive technical blocks: first touch → passing → finishing.

Small-sided games to accelerate decision-making and creativity.

Intro to team principles: pressing cues, support angles, transition moments.

Spring – Apply & Test

Higher-intensity sessions with game-like scenarios.

Friendlies/scrimmages to apply principles under light pressure.

Individual targets shared with players and parents.
Summer – Peel Halton Soccer League

Team will compete in the Peel Halton Soccer League.

Focus on applying learned skills and tactical concepts in a competitive setting.

Continued refinement of positional understanding and team shape.

Fitness maintained through ball-centric conditioning.
Fall – Review & Elevate

Targeted training blocks to close gaps ahead of Winter ramp-up.

Leadership and teamwork workshops woven into sessions.
Outcome: By the end of 12 months, players will be technically, tactically, physically, and mentally prepared for competitive soccer, with an established foundation for future success.
