Milton, Ontario — Halton Hawks FC is proud to announce the launch of its FUNiño Program for the Summer 2026 season, designed specifically for players aged 8 to 10. The program will officially begin in late May 2026, providing young players with a modern, engaging, and developmentally appropriate introduction to the game.
FUNiño is a small-sided, game-based training format that emphasizes creativity, decision-making, and intelligent play. With multiple goals, fewer players, and constant involvement, Funino encourages players to scan the environment, solve problems, and make decisions independently — all while enjoying the game in its purest form.
The introduction of FUNiño fits seamlessly within the Halton Hawks Coaching Model, which places long-term player development at the centre of everything the club does. By creating environments that reward exploration, repetition, and game understanding, FUNiño supports the development of confident, technically capable, and tactically aware players.
“This is something we have been planning for quite some time,” said Vasco Nunes, Technical Director of Halton Hawks FC.“ Funino is deeply aligned with how we believe young players should learn the game. It’s an approach that prioritizes intelligence, creativity, and joy — not early results.
We are extremely excited to formally implement this model, which was developed by my mentor and friend, the late Horst Wein, whose work continues to influence player development around the world.”
